The Baseball Hall of Fame 2023 Baseball Writers elect a single inductee. St. Louis Cardinals 3rd baseman Scott Rolen is added to the sport’s greatest roster. Rolen and Fred McGriff who is the Contemporary Baseball Players Era inductee will join the Hall on Sunday, July 23, in Cooperstown.

SUNY Oneonta Anthropology Exhibit Opening In Feb.

SUNY Oneonta’s Anthropology Department and the Anthropology Club are hosting an opening event on Feb. 8 for a new exhibit, “Unessays in Anthropology.” The exhibit features student projects from a variety of classes that are part of alternative assignments known as “unessays.”

SNAP Recipients To Get Additional Food Assistance

Those enrolled in the state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for January. Households already receiving the maximum monthly benefit, and those that had been receiving an emergency allotment will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95.

Unemployment Up In December

December unemployment in Otsego County increased to 3.2% from the November rate of 2.7% Chenango County’s rate is up to 3% from 2.7% and in Delaware County it’s 3.3% from 2.9%. The state unemployment is 4.3% in December which was unchanged from November.

DEC Seeking Lifeguards

Applying to become a lifeguard is probably the last thing on your mind but the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced its free lifeguard qualifying procedures will begin Saturday, Feb. 4. Those 15 and older are eligible to register. Candidates who qualify will be considered for employment.

New York Farm Bureau Releases Legislative Priorities

The New York Farm Bureau released its 2023 state legislative priorities addresssing the needs and challenges of the agricultural community. The major issues are farm labor needs, securing proper funding in the state budget, support for increased markets for New York grown products, extended producer responsibility legislation and direct sales for farm beverages.

Oberacker Presses For Public Safety Reforms

State Senator Peter Oberacker joined members of the Senate and Assembly Republican Conferences to unveil a legislative package to Create a Safer New York. Oberacker says these comprehensive policy solutions support law enforcement, fix the state’s broken criminal justice system, crack down on illegal gun crime, and protect victims along with innocent New Yorkers.

NYFB To Outline Legislative Priorities

Tofay the New York Farm Bureau will outline its top state priorities for the 2023 legislative session. The Bureau will review significant legislation that will impact New York agriculture and discuss critical budget needs. The priorities include efforts to support more New York grown food and the growth of farms and small businesses.
