Forest Rangers In Sherburne For Ice Rescue Training

Last week several Department of Environmental Conservation lForest Rangers participated in flat ice rescue training in the village of Sherburne. Rangers practiced techniques to self-rescue after falling through the ice and worked on single- and multi-rescuer techniques for ice rescues.

DiNapoli Calls for Long-Needed State Debt Reform

NY Farm Bureau Gov. Budget Statement

The New York Farm Bureau is thanking Governor Kathy Hochul for additional funding in her proposed budget for agriculture. It includes $10 million to eliminate food scarcity which would support farm markets and supply chain improvements. There is also support for NY FarmNet to address mental health needs in the farming community.

Higher Speed Limit Bill Introduced In State Senate

New York’s maximum speed limit could rise to 70 miles an hour if a bill introduced in the state Senate becomes law. The current maximum is 65 miles an hour and the increased limit bill is being reviewed by the Senate Transportation Committee.

Road Work Today On West St.

The City of Oneonta is doing repair work today at 24 West Street. This work will require a lane closure until 11:00am. Traffic will be stop and go to accommodate two way thru traffic. Road Work signs and flaggers will direct traffic and using alternate routes is recommended to avoid delays.

DCSO Host DCMO BOCES Tour

The Delaware County Sheriff’s office hosted the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES Security and Law Enforcement Senior Class and their Instructor for a tour of the County Public Safety Building. Of special interest was seeing the Delaware County 911 Center and the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

Fatal Fire In Deposit

A fire at a Deposit home last Saturday resulted in an individual’s death. The fire department was called to a Lumber Road home and reinforcements were called in with crews from 5 other departments responding. The home was a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

EV Charging Station Opens In Hancock

An open-access electric vehicle fast charging hub opened Tuesday at Hancock Town Hall. It has eight universal charging ports and eight Supercharger ports by Tesla for its EVs. The station and can accommodate EV pickup trucks. It also allows for parking and turnaround space.

Fire Destroys Hartwick Home

A fire destroyed a home in Hartwick on Monday. Firefighters from a dozen companies respionded to the Back Alley Road home. Three people inside the house were all evacuated safely but three dogs died. Authorities say one of the evacuees and two firefighters were treated for minor smoke inhalation.
