Norwich Police apprehend a 20-year-old man after he got into a fight with a relative and burglarized their home. According to the Evening Sun the man who investigators say is homeless entered the home without permission and knocked the relative down. The man is now facing 2 felony charges. The state enacts legislation restoring the ability for thousands of businesses to access low-cost workers’ compensation coverage through the New York State Insurance Fund. NY has new regulations for summer recreational activities. One new law allows those over 18 to lease watercrafts without a boating safety license, provided that they are monitored by operators. State lawmakers pass a resolution to enshrine equal rights into the New York Constitution which according to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office solidifies the right to abortion access. When enacted, the amendment will add 9 more protections to ones currently prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion or creed. The State Department of Health reports 96 confirmed monkeypox cases as of last Friday. Most cases are in New York City and suburbs while the closest case to here is in Chemung County. A state audit of the Kortright Rural Fire District finds the Board did not establish adequate controls over financial activities to safeguard assets. Many of the audit’s findings had to do with the Treasurer’s responsibilities. District officials say they agreed with the audit’s findings and are taking corrective action.
