Area Counties Receive FEMA Disaster Preparedness Funding

Otsego, Chenango and Delaware counties recieve grants to support disaster preparedness efforts. The funding through FEMA assists efforts ranging from the development and implementation of training and exercises to acquiring emergency response resources at the county level. Chenango and Delaware Counties received around $25,000 And Otsego County was awarded just over $28,000.

State Tax Receipts Exceed Projections by $2.4 Billion

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office reports tax receipts totaled $58.4 billion through the first half of the Fiscal Year exceeding the latest projections by $2.4 billion. Dinapoli says the extra revenue should go to bolstering rainy day reserve funds on or ahead of schedule.

DMV Releases Operation Prevent Results

Over 550 people received tickets during the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles seasonal crackdown on the use of fake IDs used to purchase alcoholic beverages. DMV investigators work with concert venues and local law enforcement to deter underage drinking. 580 fake documents were seized.

OCSO Deputy Puffer Earns National Certification

Otsego County Sheriff Deputy Sheriff Erika Puffer earned a certificate from the University of Missouri certifying her Level 3 Professional Expert Animal Cruelty Investigator with the National Animal Cruelty Investigations School. Deputy Puffer is now Nationally Certified in Animal Cruelty Investigation including animal law, and courtroom preparation as well as animal handling and behavior.

Charges Files In Hartwick Crash

A man is facing multiple charges from a one-car crash in Hartwick. According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s office the man who is from Fly Creek struck a utility pole then ran away from the crash. He was located a short distance away and charged then released.

Takei To Deliver SUNY Oneonta 2022 Mills Distinguished Lecture

Actor George Takei will deliver SUNY Oneonta’s 2022 Mills Distinguished Lecture on Monday, Oct. 24, at 7:00 p.m. Takei’s book “They Called Us Enemy” is this year’s Common Read. Faculty using the Common Read in class are encouraged to have students RSVP on Campus Connection for sessions with Takei.

Otsego County Sheriff’;s Deputy Gets Commendation

State Senator Peter Oberacker presented Otsego County Sheriff’s deputy Erika Puffer with a New York State Senate Commendation Award for her work on several recent cruelty investigations and animal rescues. The award is given to exceptional individuals who have made a dedicated and lasting contribution to their community.

Bassett Gets USDA Grant

Bassett Hospital in Coopewrstown receives a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to improve health care facilities and expand critical services. The $229,000 grant is part of more that $13 million awarded to over 2009 rural health care organizations across New York.
