Sales Tax Collections Up But Don’t Match Inflation

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office reports local government sales tax collections grew by 10.2% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. DiNapoli says this is the second straight quarter that year-over-year growth did not keep pace with inflation for counties and cities outside of New York City.

SUNY To Add Opioid Antagonists

New York is now requiring all SUNY student housing units to have opioid antagonists who can administer the medication Narcan in the event of an overdose. In 2019 New York had nearly 3,000 fatal overdoses. The new law is part of a campaign to encourage participation in drug prevention activities.

Injured Eagle Found In Cooperstown Continues To Recover

Now an update on the injured eagle found in August at Brookwood Point in the Cooperstown area. The Otsego County Sheriff’s office reports it was successfully treated and is now with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for further care prior to being released back into the wild.

Veterans Resource Fair Is Nov. 13 At FPAC

A Veterans Resource Fair is planned for Nov. 13 at the Foothills Performing Art Center from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Attendees can learn about agencies that assist Veterans, Service Members and their families. At 3:00 p.m. there will be a “Salute to Veterans” concert.

Join the Oneonta Lions Club, Destination Oneonta and Main St. businesses for Trick or Treating and the annual Halloween Parade. Trick or Treating starts at 3:30 p.m. Line Up for the Parade on Elm Street is at 5:00 p.m. and the parade starts at 6:00 p.m.

Cooperstown Flushing Fire Hydrants Today

The Village of Cooperstown is conducting its annual fire hydrant maintenance and flushing today. Officials remind the public they should never park directly next to a hydrant and it is a good idea to leave a good bit of space around the hydrant as well.

DMV Offering Chat Services

The State Department of Motor Vehicles reminds residents they can live chat with DMV representatives through its website. The agency expanded the number of topics that chat agents can assist with and more will be added in the future. Get details at dmv.ny.gov
