New York Food for New York Families Applications Accepted

The State Department of Agriculture and Markets is now accepting applications for its New York Food for New York Families program. Its goals are to establish and broaden partnerships between farmers and producers, food distribution and food networks. Nonprofits, agricultural cooperatives, tribal organizations, public educational institutions and municipalities can apply.

Two Community Volunteers in Otsego County Honored

Two Otsego County individuals are honored by the New York State Office for the Aging. Neil Riddell of Otego and Sheila Serbay of Cooperstown were nominated by Otsego County Office for the Aging for recognition at the Offices’s annual Older New Yorkers’ Day celebration.

County Initiative Honoring Veterans Achieves National Reach

The state Association of Counties is encouraging participation in Operation Green Light, a collaborative campaign to honor the nation’s veterans. Residents and businesses are encouraged to change a light in the entryway of their house or business to a green bulb. It tells veterans they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

DOH Warns About Antibiotic Overuse

The State Department of Health issued a reminder that the overuse and misuse of antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance. Officials say antibiotics only work on bacterial infections and you should only take them if your healthcare provider deems it necessary.

Norwich Man Torches His Own Home

A Norwich man is charged with setting his own house on fire. Police say th man was using a blowtorch to kill insects at the State Street home when the fire started. In addition to an arson charge he is charged with criminal mischief and Reckless Endangerment.

Catch Basin On Bugbee Road

Expect delays on Bugbee Road in Oneonta while a catch basin is replaced today. Traffic near the intersection of Crestmont Terrace is restricted to a single lane until 5:00 p.m. Drivers are asked to use caution and pay attention to flaggers as well as temporary traffic control devices.

ABA Praises Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard

Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard is featured on the American Bus Association’s “Best of the Best” list highlighting destinations going above and beyond to accomodate group tours. The mill will be featured in this year’s November-December issue of the “Destinations” magazine.
