New York State Sen. Peter Oberacker, has recently said he will join other senators in a bipartisan effort to call for passage of legislation that would provide free college tuition to active volunteer first responders. Oberacker himself has served with a volunteer fire company and says he knows the challenges many rural departments face. The bill would establish a program that would provide free tuition through the SUNY, CUNY, or any community college.
