The Chenango County Health Department is reporting a rabies case within a raccoon. The positive test result came back on Tuesday from a raccoon that was found on Tamarac Road in the town of Preston. The animal was tested at the state’s Wadsworth Lab. As a reminder, you are urged never to disturb wildlife or stray animals at any time… and report any strange or aggressive behavior by wildlife. If you’ve been bitten or scratched by a wild animal, you should wash and rinse the wound immediately and seek medical attention.
