A raccoon found in Middletown has tested positive for rabies after a resident was bitten. That resident is undergoing rabies post exposure treatment. Animals will not always show signs of having rabies, so the
Delaware County Public Health Services advises residents to leave wild animals alone, including baby animals, and to be aware of strange behavior. Raccoons, foxes, skunks and bats are know to be primary carriers of rabies, although any warm blooded animal can have rabies. Rabies is 100% fatal to mammals, including humans. To report a suspected rabid animal, call the Delaware County Public Health Services.
