Chenango County Behavioral Health Services is adding another 120-thousand dollares to its budget in order to meet expenses through the end of the year. Leaders of the program say the funding is needed in order to help a growing number of indicted individuals who require mental health evaluations before they stand trial. The state mandates the program dealing with individuals with mental illness who have been charged with a crime and deemed unfit for court proceedings. County leaders had budgeted 540-thousand dollars for the program for 2025, which was already an increase of 100-thousand dollars from 2024.
