One person is confirmed dead after a small explosion and fire in an apartment above the closed Oneonta Theater on Chestnut Street downtown. The flames broke out in the apartment on Thursday around 1:00 in the afternoon, but the situation was said to be under control within about 15 minutes. The Daily Star reports… one resident told firefighters that she was leaving her apartment when she heard a small explosion, then noticed smoke. She reported that her brother, who lived with her, was still inside the apartment. Firefighters have not officially released the name of the victim or a cause for the fire.
