A report out this month has found that the Empire State is experiencing a significant rise in hate crimes. In fact, a record number of hate-based incidents since the year 2000, according to information supplied by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office. More than 61 percent of the hate crimes recorded by the state took place in New York City. The August 2024 report found that a majority of hate crimes in New York targeted Jewish people, Black people and gay men.
