Chenenago County health officials are putting out a rabies alert. A raccoon tested positive for the fatal disease on May 30th after the animal was found in the hamlet of Preston. A statement from the health department says residents are advised to take a few precautions, which include never coming into contact with any stray or wild animals… notify the health department if you see noctural animals like skunks, fox, or racooons out during the daytime… and report any animal bites or scratches to your doctor or the Chanango County Health Department.
