You will likely see some new technology going up around Oneonta in the very near future. The common council on Tuesday – approved the purchase of new fixed license plate readers for police officers. The technology scans the police car’s surroundings and can read license plates. It then sends that information to a database, and if a license plate matches any plate placed in a database, then it notifies the officer almost instantly. The cost of the technology will be a little more than 140-thousand dollars, paid for by a grant from the state Department of Criminal Justice Services.
