A health alert in Oneonta. A statement from Otsego County Health Department says a bat has tested positive for rabies. The positive result was returned on Thursday. At this point, one person wa sknown to have been exposed to the rabid bat. That person is now undergoing treatment. Rabies is fatal and is transmitted to humans through a bite from an infected animal, or if saliva from an infected animal enters the blood system through broken skin or mucous membranes.
