Meanwhile, investigators released a few more details into the cause of the blast on Richards Street that killed the resident. The Otsego County Sheriff released a statement Tuesday that said “We are confident in our knowledge that the blast was caused by the resident due to a non-intended natural gas leak. The escaping gases contacted an ignition source, resulting in the explosion.” NYSEG also said it believes the overall gas system is safe and in normal operating condition – and that there were no irregularities or defects that caused or contributed to the incident.
