A new mascot has been chosen for students at Sidney Central Schools. After a contest, the most popular name chosen was The Sabres. The Sabres mascot was chosen from three finalists. Other nicknames were The Lions and The Rough Riders. The decision to switch mascots came after a state supreme court ruling last year that prohibits public school districts from using nicknames or mascots connected to Native American heritage. Sidney was previously known as the Warriors.
