State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office announced local sales tax collections last month increased by nearly 17% over a year ago. Local collections totaled $1.7 billion, up $242 million from May of last year. DiNapoli says every county also experienced double-digit growth in collections, at least partially due to soaring gas prices.
