The Hanford Mills Museum in East Meredith cancels the Dan Rion Memorial Antique Engine Jamboree that was to take place Saturday due to the increased COVID-19 community transmission rates and the difficulty of ensuring social distancing. The Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown is changing this year’s Harvest Festival to a four-week-long-event called “Celebration of Autumn”. Officials say the change is due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. The event runs from Sept. 11 to Oct. 11 and will contain many of the attractions that are part of the Harvest Festival. Around 20,000 baseball fans came out for Wednesday’s Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. Derek Jeter, Larry Walker, Marvin Miller and Ted Simmons joined 31 other Hall of Famers who were at the event. Public libraries in Edmeston, Hartwick, Richfield Springs and Sidney receive state grants for various construction projects. Senator Peter Oberacker says libraries are historic landmarks in many cases and technology and accessibility upgrades can be costly so these funds will help as communities make needed improvements to meet new and evolving needs. Oneonta’s ReUse Center announces it has collected 9 tons of polystyrene for recycling. Officials say polystyrene which is better known as styrofoam is often not recycled and ends up in landfills. The Center began recycling polystyrene in 2019 after acquiring specialized equipment. The Center is a project of the Arc Otsego. Source: Press release
Hundreds of Delhi Telephone Co. customers lost service early Wednesday after service lines caugh fire. Officials say it happened on County Route 35 where a tree caught fire. Most service was restored by early afternoon and the company posted on social media that all service is now restored. The City of Oneonta is performing a pavement maintenance process on several streets weather permitting. The work starts today and goes through Monday between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm. A burglary report in Sidney on Wednesday leads to a man facing a felony charge. Police say they were called to a River St. location and detained a 29-year-old believed to be involved in the incident. A Sidney Police investigation into several criminal incidents ends up with a woman facing multiple felony charges. Police say the woman was apprehended on Tuesday with an active arrest warrant and was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court. Bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
