Surprise Discovery Of Well-Known Artist’s Work At Hyde Hall

Hyde Hall in Cooperstown announces the discovery of 2 Ellen Emmet Rand sketches which were found inside a scrapbook. Collections Manager Larry Smith says he uncovered the images while digitizing a scrapbook from the Clarke family that spans roughly from 1880 to 1910. Smith added that he was astounded that a sketch by an important American portrait artist was simply tucked away in an old scrapbook. After further examination, the scrapbook will be returned to the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections of Cornell University.
