New York is making $15 million available to help low-income residents who suffer from serious health issues and who are affected by heat to obtain assistance to pay for cooling equipment. The cooling assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program provides an air conditioner to eligible households. To qualify for the federally-funded program, applicants must meet existing HEAP eligibility criteria and income guidelines. Go to otda.ny.gov for details. Applications are accepted until Aug. 30.
