The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from a resident saying they received unsolicited documentation from the New York State Department of Labor- Unemployment Insurance. It appears that unknown individuals with access to resident’s Personally Identifiable Information inappropriately and fraudulently applied electronically for unemployment benefit. If you are contacted about unemployment benefits not applied for the Sheriff’s Office says be aware of the possibility of identity theft.
