Schoharie Officials Arrested In Car Theft

The two Schoharie men arrested for stealing a car then selling it for scrap are identified as officials who work for the county. Police say 45-year-old Benjamin Cooper and 37-year-old James Schultz were charged last week in the investigation where a car owned by one of Schultz’s tenants was found in an Albany scrap metal yard. The Times Journal reports Cooper is an administrator for the Schoharie County Department of Public Works and Schultz is a Town of Schoharie councilman. Both are due in court Jan. 17.
