Cuomo Supports Empire State Equity Act

Governor Andrew Cuomo is endorsing a federal bill that would deliver property tax relief to New Yorkers by increasing federal funding for New York’s Medicaid program.

The Empire State Equity Act would provide New York with an additional $2.3 billion in Medicaid funds to eliminate the local share of Medicaid for any county that agrees to lower local property taxes by an equal amount.

Cuomo says New York is a “donor state” that contributes as much as $30 billion more to the federal budget in taxes than it receives back in services.

Norwich Man Faces Child Pornography Charges

A Norwich man is facing child pornography charges and authorities say there may be additional charges filed.

Police say they got a tip from the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment Hotline and after an investigation took Travis St. Denny into custody on Tuesday.

St. Denny was arraigned in Norwich City Court and taken to the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

The investigation is reported to be in its early stages.

Shoplifter Also Faces Drug Charges

A shoplifting arrest in Stamford on Tuesday turned into a drug bust.

Police say Tisha Grizzard of Durham was caught at the Tops Friendly Market on Main Street taking an E.L.F. foundation makeup valued at about $5.

As officers took Grizzard into custody they found a metal smoking device that had a small amount of marijuana with it.

Grizzard was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Stamford Court on April 11

Woman Arrested For Threatening Health Care Worker

A woman being treated at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi is now charged with harrassing a hospital worker.

Police say Rayven Hill of Brooklyn was at the hospital’s emergency room on March 18 when she became dissatisfied with her care and threatened one of the caregivers saying she should punch them in the face.

Hill was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree harassment.

Her next court appearance is pending.

Volunteers Needed For OCCA Earth Festival

The Otsego County Conservation Association is looking for volunteers to assist with the thirteenth annual Earth Festival event at Milford Central School on Saturday, April 22 and a pre-festival movie night being held on April 21.

Earth Festival is a family-oriented event that features environmentally-themed vendors, exhibitors and activities.

The association says volunteers are being asked to help with a wide variety of tasks on Friday and Saturday and to participate, contact OCCA Executive Director, Leslie Orzetti at (607) 547-4488.

Oneonta Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator Receives Award

The Chief Operator of the City of Oneonta’s Water Treatment Plant is recognized by the New York Section American Water Works Association.

Stanley Shaffer, a 37 year employee of City of Oneonta will receive the association’s 2017 Operators Meritorious Service Award at the organization’s Annual Conference on April 26 in Saratoga Springs.

In a statement Mayor Gary Herzig states the residents of Oneonta can take healthy water for granted every day as a direct result of Stan Shaffer’s work.

Dick Button Exhibit Opens At Fenimore

The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown kicks off its 2017 season Saturday with an exhibit of two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Dick Button’s skating-related collection of paintings, and other items.

It’s called “The Art of Figure Skating Through the Ages” and runs through the end of the year.

Button and other figure skaters will be at the the museum’s annual gala on Friday, July 14 then appear the next day in a symposium entitled Fenimore on Ice.

Domestic Violence Arrest In Delhi

An argument that became violent lands a Delhi man in jail.

Police say Jeffrey Oakley was in a verbal dispute Monday at a home on Archie Elliot Road in the Town of Meredith when he grabbed the the victim by the hair and bounced the victim’s head off the floor causing an injury to the neck.

Oakley was jailed in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 property bond and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

State Awards Grants For Communications Systems Upgrades

Otsego and Chenango Counties will be sharing in $45 million awarded across New York State to upgrade emergency communications systems.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says this will improve the quality and efficiency of emergency response capabilities across New York, while supporting the brave first responders who put their lives on the line every day to protect their neighbors and their community.

Otsego County has been awarded $797,694 and Chenango County will receive $456,553

Fake ALDI Coupons Could Cause A Virus

A scam alert to tell you about now – involving social media and an electronic coupon for grocery retailer Aldi.

The fake coupons have the Aldi logo on them and offer a $100 discount but if you download it you could expose your smartphone to a virus.

Aldi posted on their Facebook page that the chain doesn’t offer electronic coupons and they won’t be accepted at their stores.
