DiNapoli Finds More Fradulent Refunds This Year

As last minute tax files scramble to get returns done on time State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli announces his auditors have recovered 82 percent more in fraudulent tax refund money for 2018 returns compared with the same point last year. Over 12,500 refunds worth nearly $44 million were halted for a number of reasons including ineligible credits, understated income, questionable Social Security numbers and those claiming both incorrect wages and withholding taxes.
