Oneonta youngster honored by Police & Fire departments

A youngster was honored by the Oneonta Police and Fire Departments for his heroism when his cousin – who was babysitting him – suffered a medical emergency.

Amari Champen called 9-1-1 to get help and dispatchers said he remained extremely calm and gave them all the information they needed to send help.

And when that help arrived, Amari flagged down the first responders so they knew where she was.

Police Chief Dennis Nayor along with Fire Chief Patrick Pidgeon gave Amari certificates honoring his actions and Mayor Gary Herzig gave him an official City of Oneonta pin.

Amari’s family attended the ceremony along with the officers and medics who responded to the call on August 21.
