Local senator pushes for legal aid

Oneonta’s state senator is pushing Governor Cuomo to OK a measure funding indigigent legal services.

According to Senator Jim Seward’s office the legislature acted following a settled lawsuit from 2014 brought by five counties that mandated the state fund expanding public defense services but the bill is sitting on Governor Cuomo’s desk.

Seward also says the state needs to put pay hikes for full time district attorneys back in the budget.

There’s been no response from the governor’s office.
