State grants to help revitalize downtown Oneonta

Last month the state awarded the City of Oneonta a ten million dollar grant to revitalize the downtown area.

Now we know what specific projects the grant money will be used for – as Mayor Gary Herzig announced the plans at this week’s meeting of the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council.

According to a published report the funds will go to the Market Street area, with five projects already in the planning stages including refurbishing the former Ford dealer at Chestnut Street and Market Street and turning the nearby parking garage into an Oneonta Public Transit terminal.

There’s been no specifics on when the projects will commence.
