New law helps cats and dogs find forever homes

The Cuomo administration took a big step to insure cats and dogs used for research by higher education institutions find forever homes when their time in the lab is finished.

According to the Governor’s office the new law takes away roadblocks to adopting these animals that had resulted in many being euthanized.

An attending veterinarian at the research facility makes sure the animals are suitable for adoption, then they will be offered up to new owners through shelters and other animal welfare organizations.

The law takes effect a month from now.
