Maple syrup production makes big gains in NY

Maple syrup production is up 18 percent this year in New York. That beats last year’s record by more than 100,000 gallons. According to agriculture officials, the state’s maple farmers have produced more than 700,000 gallons of syrup this year and attribute the increase to warmer-than-normal temperatures and an extended season averaging 36 days.

New York remains the second-largest producer of maple syrup nationally, with more than 2.5 million taps in production.
